VINCE CABLE BEST MAN TO GUIDE COUNTRY IN DIFFICULT ECONOMIC TIMES

Reg Clark, prospective Liberal Democrat Candidate in the forthcoming General Election today claimed that Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Vince Cable is the country's preferred choice to guide it through difficult economic times as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

'There is a great deal of talk currently about the likelihood of a hung parliament and coalition government - there can be no greater argument in favour of such a scenario than the certainty that in any such situation involving the Liberal Democrats, Vince Cable would be a certainty as Chancellor of the Exchequer. It is clear that the country has recognised that he and the Liberal Democrats alone warned of the impending economic crash and credit crunch. They were widely derided in parliament by Labour and the Tories for doing so - in a House of Commons of staggering mediocrity in terms of business expertise and talent Vince Cable stands out as someone with the experience and knowledge necessary in the circumstances and a willingness to tell it like it is - no matter how inconvenient or unpopular the truth might be'.

At the Liberal Democrat Conference in Birmingham this weekend, Cable outlined the Liberal Democrats determination to take drastic action in respect of the increasingly competition in the banking sector by breaking up the big banks and drastically cutting government spending in areas such as use of outside consultancies.

'In the coming General Election, I will be urging the people of Hartlepool to reject Labour first and foremost because of their appalling economic record - they have brought the country to its knees. I will also be pointing out that only one party can defeat Labour in Hartlepool and that's the Liberal Democrats. A vote for us will not only defeat Labour, but it will also be a vote for Vince Cable as Chancellor. This can happen and we can make it happen.'
